IN QUEST OF COFFEE

If you're not a coffee drinker - read this anyway.  If you are a coffee drinker you will understand my ramblings.  A real coffee drinker starts the day with coffee - and continues to drink coffee throughout the day.  Due to failings on their part, some people are forced to quit drinking coffee after certain times of the day.   Not their fault - they just prefer sleep over coffee. Some people drink only coffee and coffee only.  Some people like their coffee black, some with cream and sugar, some with a little cream, some with lots of cream and sugar and just a little coffee.  Every coffee drinker has their own preference.  Me - I drink it every way.  Black is fine,  flavored creamers are good and special flavored lattes and cappuccino's are great.

Now when I say they start the day with coffee; I mean - they make a pot when they first get up.  Or if they are lucky enough, they have a coffee pot they can put on a timer and wake up to coffee.  That, my friend, is indeed a luxury!  If you are not equipped with the timer coffee maker you can prepare your coffee pot the night before and then just hit the switch when you first get up.  Provided of course, you are not to tired at bed time to take the time to prepare the coffee pot for the following morning.  If you drink coffee all day long, preparing the pot the night before should not  be an issue for you.

Now sometimes I do prepare the coffee pot the evening before.  Sometimes I just get up and start a pot of coffee first thing.  Except for Sundays.  Sundays are different.  We are at church early.  By this I mean we leave the house at 7:00 am to go to church to prepare the coffee for all the coffee drinkers.  We usually eat breakfast on the way to church or pick it up and take to church to eat.  This would depend on whether or not the grand kids have spent the night with us.

Today was a day we picked up breakfast.  Stopped at Sonic got sandwiches (and a corn dog for Gary).  They don't make "special" coffee so Gary was kind enough to stop at McDonald's to get me a large Caramel latte.  He's good to me that way.  Now it's 7:00 am - start of the day.  And if someone is wanting coffee they want it then for sure.  We pull up to the drive thru and Gary orders my latte only to be told.  "I'm sorry.  We are cleaning our machine right now and are unable to fix this."

SERIOUSLY!!!!!   Who in their right mind would clean the machine at that time of day?  I understand the machine needs to be cleaned but why not do so at an hour when normal people won't order a latte?  Say perhaps 2 or 3 am?  Makes perfect sense to me.  Did it not occur to anyone at all that people would perhaps be wanting coffee first thing in the morning?  This store is open 24 hours a day.  Come on people, choose another time to clean your machine.

So on to church without the latte.  I say no big deal I will swing by Quik Trip in a little bit when I get back out.  So I head off to Quik Trip and go in to get my cappuccino.  Now you have to remember that I am a creature of habit and I don't take changes very well.  At least little changes I don't.  I like to know that if I want to have an Almond Amaretto Cappuccino I go to the second machine and use the middle button.  If I want to have a Caramel Maccchiatto (I know that spelling is way off but Spell Check isn't helping me out with it) I go to the third machine and use the middle button.  First machine left button varies depending on season.   I know my coffee machines at my Quik Trip.

So finally, almost two hours after I get up I get my first cup of coffee for the day!  I can face the day ahead which includes Children's Sunday School.  Gotta have the coffee before I can face the kids!

Perhaps I should be pro-active tonight and get the coffee pot ready for tomorrow morning while I am thinking of it.

  1. While you're starting your day making coffee, I'm starting my day thinking about making coffee before I get out of bed. Sometimes I even think about how nice that first cup's going to taste in the morning when I go to sleep the night before. Suggestion for your next blog: why no Starbucks in our area of town!

  2. Keep on blogging my friend, that way I can get to know you much better. I myself never drink coffee...it is TEA all the way for me! Our life became much easier when we bought our Keurig single serve machine. Now Robert gets up and makes himself a coffee, then I get up and make myself a tea. Life is so simple now - no waiting for coffee to brew or kettles to boil. We are so blessed! And you and Gary are a blessing to us. Thank you for your faithful (though coffee-laden) service to the People of God.
